RETIRED MILITARY OPT OUT
State employees who are retired from military service and have federal TRICARE insurance benefits can opt out of the state's basic plan. When electing this option, you will opt out of insurance coverage for yourself and any dependents for the following:
- Health
- Dental
- Basic Life
- Disability
- Supplemental Life
- Dependent Life
In lieu of the normal benefit allowance, TRICARE opt-outs will receive $150 per month or the bi-weekly equivalent from their agencies. A copy of the participant's military service card will be requested as proof of TRICARE coverage. In response to Senate Bill 623, which became law in 2011, your Benefits Office is making a TRICARE supplement available to military retirees. For rates, go to Plan Year 2013 in this section, then select Plan Rates.
When electing to opt out of the core benefits, the following voluntary elections are still available to you and your dependents:
- Vision Coverage
- Health Care Reimbursement Account
- Dependent Care Reimbursement Account
